Keith Valone, Ph.D., Psy.D., M.S.C.P.

Principal, Clinical Director, and Staff Psychologist

Dr. Keith Valone received his undergraduate degree in psychology from USC. He completed his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and interned at the Langley Porter Psychiatric Institute at the University of California, San Francisco. He completed a National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) postdoctoral fellowship in schizophrenia and bipolar disorder at UCLA. He has a second doctorate in psychoanalysis from the Institute of Contemporary Psychoanalysis in Los Angeles and is a certified psychoanalyst. He has a master of science in clinical psychopharmacology (M.S.C.P.) from Alliant International University in San Francisco. Dr. Valone is also the founder, owner, and CEO of The Arroyos Treatment Centers and The Arroyos Psychological Associates. He is also the Director of CE4Psych, a continuing education training program for mental health professionals operated by The Arroyos Psychological Associates.

Dr. Valone is a licensed clinical psychologist (CA PSY7843) and a staff psychologist at The Arroyos. He has broad clinical skills in treating a wide range of conditions including depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive spectrum disorders, psychotic disorders, and co-occurring substance use disorders. He integrates a foundation in contemporary psychodynamic therapy and psychopharmacology with specialized treatments such as Interpersonal and Social Rhythm Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Family Focused Therapy, and other targeted therapies for specific disorders and conditions. He also has specialties in psychodiagnostic evaluations, hospital practice, and LPS conservatorships.

Dr. Valone feels that creating an atmosphere of trust and safety is the most critical foundation of his work with his patients. He understands that it is difficult for a new patient to reveal personal and upsetting issues to an unfamiliar person when feeling vulnerable, anxious, and often in pain. Earning each patient’s trust is a prerequisite to working together to understand and diagnose the problems that are there. Working together to heal and repair the hurt and trauma while gaining tools to stabilize one’s life will then lead to a gradual restoration of self. Then working together, Dr. Valone focuses with his patients on new growth, strength, and resilience so that they can live lives that may not have been possible before coming to therapy.
